Biografía

Angelo Arcidiacono was a Junior World Champion in the sabre in 1975, and joined the Italian squad for Montréal the next year, picking up a silver medal with the team. The next year, he finished third individually in the World Championships, a breakthrough for the Sicilian fencer. But after winning a team bronze at the 1978 World Championship, Arcidiacono was absent from the sport for some years, giving preference to his study and suffering from an injury during the Moscow Olympics. His return in 1981 was crowned with a team silver medal at the 1982 World Championships and the Olympic gold medal in 1984 (competing only in the preliminary rounds). After Los Angeles, Arcidiacono pursued a career in medicine. He died aged 51 of an unspecified disease.
