About the Games
Singapore 2010 was the first-everYouth Olympic Games. The brainchild of then-IOC President Jacques Rogge, the YOG aims to inspire and engage a young generation that is increasingly spending less time on sports and more time on the internet and watching television. The Summer Youth Olympic Games Singapore 2010 showcased Singapore to the world while celebrating diversity, friendship, hope and the Olympic ideals.
Singapore 2010’s tagline, “blazing the trail,” represented the new opportunities the Youth Olympic Games presented to young athletes as well as the model the inaugural host created for future editions of the YOG. In this edition, 3,524 athletes participated in 201 events in 26 sports with new format such as 3x3 basketball. An incubator of innovation, the YOG Singapore 2010 featured a vast educational program for athletes with more than 50 activities in Olympic Values, sustainability, wellness and healthy living. This first edition saw an impressive 20,000 volunteers fully dedicated to hosting the world.
