Mattéo Ruberti will carry the Olympic Torch. This is his story:
Mattéo, a 21-year-old autistic sportsman, began participating in sport 9 years ago with the aim of getting out of his bedroom. Since then, he has already made impressive progress, with 6 marathons to his name. In addition to this, he has won the title of French para-triathlon champion in the mentally handicapped category.
For Mattéo, it is important to show that even people with autism can achieve great things. His ultimate dream is to one day take part in the Paralympic Games, as soon as his category is accepted. In the meantime, he has a deep desire to carry the Olympic Torch, symbolising the hope and determination of all people with a mental disability. Mattéo uses Pierre de Coubertin’s maxim as his motto: “The important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle, the essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well”.
