Joel Robeiri will carry the Olympic Torch. Here’s his story:

Joël has been obsessed with basketball from an early age. His love of sport and commitment to helping others led him to embark on a career as a professional fireman at 20 years old. Sadly, an accident that left him with physical complications initially appeared to have put an end to his personal and career goals. But Joël chose not to give up, fighting to keep pursuing his passion for sport and his profession as a firefighter in the field.

He has now redefined his role, becoming a non-commissioned photo reporter for the fire brigade. This new position allows him to keep the adrenalin pumping while contributing to the well-being of his fellow citizens and boosting the media visibility of French Guiana’s fire brigade. Outside work, Joël also enjoys cycling, swimming and fitness. For his family and friends, he is a model of resilience, determination and success. Joël's journey is a perfect reflection of the values of the Olympic spirit. Despite the obstacles he has encountered, he embodies the “faster, higher, stronger” maxim through his goals and achievements, demonstrating remarkable strength of character in the face of life's challenges.
