Florian Merrien

Florian Merrien will carry the Olympic Torch. This is his story:

Florian has been in a wheelchair since he was 18-months old due to a virus that affected his spinal cord. At the age of 10 years old, a physiotherapist suggested that he try out several sports, including table tennis. As a result, he enrolled at the club in Grand Quevilly and has not stopped making progress in this discipline.

Florian has won titles at national, European and world level and is now a four times Paralympic medallist. In addition to his sporting achievements, Florian also has plenty of commitments. He was appointed Sport & Disability ambassador by the Seine-Maritime department, where he regularly visits secondary schools to talk about inclusion. Furthermore, he is an ambassador for the “Ping Pong without borders” association.
