Athletics in Laval

The French Athletics Federation (FFA) is an association governed by the Law of 1901 and founded in 1920.

With more than 300,000 members, its mission, as part of the delegation granted by the Ministry of Sport, is to develop, control and organise the practice of athletics in all its forms, to defend the moral and material interests of French athletics and to ensure the representation of these disciplines at international level. The FFA is growing rapidly and is developing its performance, leisure and health activities throughout France thanks to its 2,500 clubs. Athletics is a sport at the origin of all sports, athletics is universal in its simplicity, and based on freedom and respect, and the desire to surpass oneself.

Team Relay in Laval, May 29.

The final leg of the Torch Relay's journey through Mayenne will start in Laval. The starting point will be the Manuela Montebrun Stadium. This is a highly symbolic place, as it bears the name of Mayenne's only Olympic medallist, who won bronze at the Olympic Games in Beijing, and who will also be the Relay captain.

The 24 male and female Relay runners, from clubs across the department where they work as volunteer leaders, officials or athletes, will complete a lap of the track. They will pass in front of various workshops showcasing the diversity of athletics, including pole vault, long jump, triple jump and hurdles.

For the first time in the history of the Games, each day of the Olympic Torch Relay and Paralympic Torch Relay, relay teams of 24 people, made up of champions, everyday athletes, volunteers, referees, coaches, etc. will be organized to spread the energy of sport and teamwork throughout the country.
