Founded on 13 May 1919, the FFR is responsible for organizing and developing rugby XV, rugby tens, 7-a-side and 5-a-side in France. A few months after the Rugby World Cup 2023, held in France, rugby will have the opportunity to compete in the Olympic Games with its French 7-a-side teams. Rugby 7s came onto the Olympic Programme for the Olympic Games Rio 2016, returning 92 years after the last Olympic rugby XV tournament.
The Olympic Torch Relay is a unique opportunity to show how important it is for rugby to be part of the Olympic Movement. Rugby is a big family where everyone can find their place, on and off the pitch, whatever their profile, status or origin. This perfectly reflects the fact that rugby's values are the same as those of the Olympic Games.
Team Relay in Marcoussis, July 22.
The National Rugby Centre (CNR) is the headquarters of the FFR and the training centre for the French rugby XV and 7-a-side teams.
The Olympic Torch Relay will take place in the heart of the CNR, notably on the main pitch. The flame will have to avoid the opposing tacklers to score the try! It will then head for the Pierre Camou Stadium in Marcoussis, accompanied by the 24 Relay runners, to convert the try.
The Olympic Torch Relay captain is Jean-Charles Mascetti. We have chosen him because he is unknown to the general public, so he embodies the thousands of volunteers without whom rugby clubs wouldn't exist. Whether serving his town or his club, Jean-Charles is always there to defend the local bond between everyone, regardless of their differences.
For the first time in the history of the Games, each day of the Olympic Torch Relay and Paralympic Torch Relay, relay teams of 24 people, made up of champions, everyday athletes, volunteers, referees, coaches, etc. will be organized to spread the energy of sport and teamwork throughout the country.
