Stage Preview

Thanks to its historical and tourist sites, villages, dynamic towns and cities, Yvelines is often compared to a scale model of France on the doorstep of Paris. The Olympic torch will start its route of the department in Les Mureaux before moving on to Mantes-la-Ville. It will then set a course for Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. It will zip down the field of play of Le Golf National, which will host the golf events of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The torch will then travel from Poissy to Saint-Germain-en-Laye and visit Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, which marks the entrance to the Upper Chevreuse Valley Regional Natural Park. The Château and city of Versailles will set the scene for the rest of the day.

Celebrations in Versailles

The Olympic torch will end its visit to Yvelines in Versailles, the administrative centre of the department. Its park and château have made this royal city famous around the globe. An architectural gem sprawling across more than 60,000 m² that served as the main residence for three kings of France (Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI), the palace will be the starting point of the Olympic torch's tour of Versailles. It is also a nod to the equestrian events that will take place in the palace gardens during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The bearers will then carry the Olympic torch to the Domaine de Madame Élisabeth estate. The house and its 8-hectare park were once the residence of the sister of King Louis XVI. It will host the end-of-day celebrations.

Versailles, royal reflections

As the cherished abode of French monarchs, spanning from Louis XIII to Louis XVI, the Palace of Versailles also played witness to the early days of the Revolution during the convening of the Estates General in 1789.
