The Olympic torch will spend its second stage in metropolitan France in the Var department: an area brimming with natural beauty, from the sea and islands to the mountains, lakes, rivers and forests of the land, all of which will be illuminated by the Olympic torch during its travels. The torch will begin its journey around the department by zipping down the Corniche d'Or in Saint-Raphaël. It will then set a course for Hyères, where it will roam Plage de l'Almanarre, a favourite among kitesurfers, before taking the Salt Road and wrapping up this segment at the Olbia archaeological site, which dates back to the 4^th century BC. From there, it will advance to Brignoles, the city of the Counts of Provence, and Flassans-sur-Issole, which has a rich medieval heritage. The route will then go as far as La Seyne-sur-Mer – famous for its former shipyards – before making a stop at Les Salles-sur-Verdon, where the Région Sud will be showcasing the Sainte-Croix lake, France’s third largest.

Celebrations in Toulon

Toulon, the capital of the Var department, is the terminus of this Olympic Torch Relay stage. The torch will depart from the 17^th-century Saint Margaret's Chapel in the neighbouring town of La Garde. Next, it will head to the 11-kilometre-long Toulon Harbour, where ships have sought shelter since antiquity. A sailing sequence will take place here. Next on the agenda is the National Navy Museum, where more than four centuries of maritime history come to life. Finally, Place de la Liberté, with the Fontaine de la Fédération as its centrepiece, will host the celebration site and the evening entertainment to rally the citizens of Var and Toulon around the values of the Olympic Games and Paris 2024.

A festive programme open to all awaits you, including :

• events organised by the local authorities: sport, music, shows, etc.
• stands run by the Relay of the Flame sponsors:
  • Coca-Cola will be providing a musical and festive atmosphere
  • Banque Populaire will be giving the public the chance to try out water sports
  • Caisse d'Epargne will be dedicating its stand to basketball and handball
• a show organised by the sponsors on the sports slab from 6 p.m.
• 7.20pm: the arrival of the last torchbearer and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron, a moment not to be missed!

Note: a giant screen, a host and a DJ will also be on hand to get the public in the mood for the Torch Relay!
