Stage Preview

Come Saturday 20 July, the Olympic torch will shine a light on the nature, heritage, and sports scene of Seine-et-Marne. The relay of the department will start with the first stage in Fontainebleau. The torch will showcase its palace, a long-time royal residence, and its park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. From there the torch will head to Pontault-Combault, the fourth-largest town in the department. After travelling from Lagny-sur-Marne to Torcy, it will take a detour to Melun. Next up is Vaires-sur-Marne, where it will visit the nautical base hosting the canoeing, kayaking, and rowing events of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, followed by Chelles. The torch will then shine in the medieval town of Provins, famed for its César Tower and ramparts. A wide range of performances will transport the torch and the crowds through time. The day will come to an end in Meaux.

Its Great War Museum also makes Meaux a favourite among history buffs. The Olympic torch will begin its journey in this place of contemplation and remembrance. It will then run down the quays and on to the island on its way to Pont Foch. The Georges Tauziet sports complex will host the end-of-day ceremony, highlighting a facility popular among athletes and bringing the magic of the Olympic flame to the masses.
