Olympic Torch Relay Route
Stage Preview
Pas-de-Calais has a distinct allure, thanks to its coasts, varied landscapes, history and forward-looking spirit—as shown by its 125 schools. The Olympic torch will spend Wednesday, 3 July highlighting a department that welcomes millions of visitors every year. It will start its day in Calais, where it will zip past its 75m-high red-brick belfry.
The next stops will be Saint-Omer and Boulogne-sur-Mer, where the torchbearers will again marvel at a belfry—this time a 12th-century keep. The torch will then hit the road for Berck-sur-Mer and a flying visit to the cathedral and squares of Arras. Then it's off to Parc d'Olhain, a leisure area in Maisnil-lès-Ruitz. The final leg of the day will take it to the Lens-Liévin agglomeration community.
Celebrations in Lens-Lievin
The Lens-Liévin agglomeration community, made up of 36 towns and cities with a rich historical heritage and a vibrant cultural scene, works hard for the well-being of its 250,000 inhabitants. The Olympic torch will start by visiting the Arena, the indoor stadium of Liévin. This versatile 35,000 m² sports complex hosts a wide range of sporting and cultural events.
The Olympic torch will then pass the Louvre-Lens Museum, which opened in 2012 and is a source of local pride. It will also make its way to the Bollaert-Delelis Stadium, which is filled to the brim for every match of RC Lens—the local football club that unites the whole city. The final relay will take place in Place Jean Jaurès in Lens. Amid townhouses, City Hall, Saint Leodegar's Church and a constellation of shops and businesses, the celebration and lighting of the cauldron will finish the stage on a high note.
