From its heritage and terroir to its landscapes and cultural venues, the European Collectivity of Alsace, nestled in the heart of Europe, is a land of wonders. The Olympic torch will bring this treasure trove to light on Wednesday, 26 June. It will start its journey in the industrial town of Mulhouse, before making its way to Huningue and the Three Countries Bridge, where it will celebrate the Franco-German friendship. The Torch and the Région Grand Est will then be highlighting Colmar, celebrating “Little French Venice” with its pastel-coloured, timber-framed houses, cobbled streets and flower-filled canals. The next stop will be Marckolsheim on the banks of the Rhine, and Saverne, famed for its Rohan Castle and historic town centre. It will then hit the road for Lembach, where it will visit the 12th-century Fleckenstein Castle. The torch’s journey for this stage will culminate in the city of Strasbourg.

Celebrations in Strasbourg

The festivities of the day will continue in the European capital of Strasbourg. The Olympic torch will start its journey from the European Parliament, continuing past the European Court of Human Rights and the Council of Europe. The torch will cross bridges from the 13th century and travel around the heart of the Grande Île, the most central and distinctive island of Strasbourg. It will make a stop at the Alsatian Museum, a museum of arts and popular traditions, and run past the Gothic cathedral of Notre-Dame. Finally, it will finish its route in the heart of the city at Place Kléber, which will host the lighting of the cauldron and subsequent celebrations at the end of the day.

A festive programme open to all awaits you, including :

• events organised by the local authorities: sport, music, shows, etc.
• stands run by the Relay of the Flame sponsors:
  • Coca-Cola will be providing a musical and festive atmosphere
  • Banque Populaire will be giving the public the chance to try out water sports
  • Caisse d'Epargne will be dedicating its stand to basketball and handball
• a show organised by the sponsors on the sports slab from 6 p.m.
• 7.20pm: the arrival of the last torchbearer and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron, a moment not to be missed!

Note: a giant screen, a host and a DJ will also be on hand to get the public in the mood for the Torch Relay!
