Pauline Ferrand-Prévot (FRA) wins women's cross-country gold!
Finally, at her fourth Olympic Games, Ferrand-Prévot (FRA) has the gold!
The Frenchwoman has won five cross-country gold medals at the world championships (2015, 2019-20, and 2022-23), and was world champion in the road race in 2014, but had yet to earn an Olympic medal...until today!
Her compatriot Loana Lecomte, who won silver in this event at the 2023 world championships, suffered a nasty fall midway through the race that put her out of contention. Puck Pieterse (NED), another medal favourite, had a tyre puncture that also dropped her down to fourth.
2022 world bronze medallist Haley Batten (USA) took advantage of the chaos ahead to burst through and earn silver, while Rio 2016 champion Jenny Rissveds (SWE) wins bronze.

Over at La Concorde Urban Park, after yesterday's postponement of the men's street event, the women are having better luck under the bright Parisian sunshine.
Japan's Yoshizawa Coco is the top qualifier for this evening's final, scoring 258.92 points from her best run plus best two tricks.

Women's kayak slalom semis begin
Over at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium, the women's kayak single (K-1) slalom semi-finals are underway.
Twenty-two kayakers qualified from yesterday's heats, and will be aiming to complete the course as one of the fastest 12 without accruing too many penalty seconds (for example, for missing a gate).
Australia's Jessica Fox was the top qualifier from heats and will start 22nd and last.
Defending Olympic champions Serbia survive
A result from the water polo earlier in the day to catch you up on:
Two-time defending men's Olympic champions Serbia survive against Japan, winning 16-15! A crucial goal from Dusan Mandic with just over a minute to go giving Serbia the win.
Great Britain lead fastest qualifiers in women's four
Great Britain's quartet of Helen Glover (two-time gold medallist in the women's pari), Esme Booth, Sam Redgrave, and Rebecca Shorten are through to the final of the women's four after posting the fastest time in the heats: 6:42.57.
They'll be joined by 2023 world champions the Netherlands (6:43.71), 2023 runners-up Romania (6:44.55), and New Zealand (6:45.44).
Should be a fantastic final! That will be on Thursday (1 August) morning.
Spain beat Great Britain
The other game in Pool B has just wrapped up - Spain beat Great Britain 2-1 through goals from Laura Barrios and Lola Riera
Australia beat South Africa
Another result to bring you from the women's hockey competition.
Australia have beaten South Africa 2-1 in women's Pool B.
South Africa had initially taken the lead through Kayla de Waal in the 14th minutes, but Australia responded two minutes later through Stephanie Kershaw to tie things up before Tatum Stewart scored what would be the winning goal from a penalty corner late in the third quarter.
World No.14 Jeon Jihee (KOR) loses in staight sets
Another big shock in the day's action following on from Abe's (JPN) loss in the judo - this time in table tennis.
Women's singles 9th seed Jeon Jihee (KOR) lost in straight games 4-0 to Portugal's Fu Yu, with the latter ranked 80th in the world. Jeon, by comparison, is ranked 14th.
There were straightforward wins for both men's and women's world no. 1 players, with Wang Chuqin (CHN) beating Slovakia's Yang Wang 4-1 and Sun Yingsha (CHN) beating Brazil's Giulia Takahashi 4-0.

South Sudan win first game in Olympic history!
I mentioned earlier that South Sudan were making their Olympic debut in men's basketball here at Paris 2024 - well, they've just proved that they're not simply here to make up the numbers.
Behind 19 points from Carlik Jones (SSD), the Bright Stars take down Puerto Rico 90-79 for their first Olympic win!
An incredible performance from South Sudan, whose basketball federation only came into being in 2011.

Biles lands signature vault
Simone Biles - pretty good at gymnastics.
That's an obvious understatement as Biles completes her two attempts on vault, including her Biles II vault - the Yurchenko double pike.
Despite a big step backwards after landing, Biles receives another big score: 15.800. And with that, she also becomes the first woman to land the vault in Olympic competition! Incredible.
Snoop Dogg - in attendance - approves.

Biles completes floor routine
Biles (USA) isn't done - far from it.
After that unbelieavble beam routine, she's now up on the floor - where two moves are actually named after her (that's just how good she is).
A slight step over the line after one landing won't be too costly, such is the difficuilty of the moves she's producing as she launches herself through the air.
Another monster score: 14.600.
Biles. Is. Back.

One of the big names of Paris 2024 - Simone Biles - makes her return to Olympic action today, and she has just smashed her beam routine in women's qualifying.
The four-time Olympic gold medallist didn't suffer a single wobble on the appartus and nailed the landing with the smallest of hops. It's a massive score: 14.733!

Every time the Frenchman's head went above the water in the breastroke leg of the race, the crowd serenaded him with cheers of "Allez!".

South Sudan make Olympic history
The Bright Stars have just taken to the court in the men's Group C contest against Puerto Rico at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, meaning they are now competing in a Olympic basketball tournament for the first time in history! It's an amazing achievement for the African nation, especially when you consider they only played their first official game in 2017 (an 87-76 loss to Egypt).
Puerto Rico are back on the Olympic hardwood for the first time since Athens 2004.
