With 600,000 people invited to the world’s greatest celebration of sport, the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony will be an incredible occasion. Reinvented for central Paris, with the capital’s exceptional heritage and the Seine as a backdrop, this Olympic Games Opening Ceremony will go down in history.

Paris is a special city, providing a dreamlike stage for the world’s greatest athletes to showcase their talent at the Paris 2024 Games. With events taking place away from the traditional stadium setting, sport will fill the city. The most iconic monuments will be transformed into arenas for an unprecedented fusion of sport and heritage. The spectacle and the emotional experience will be completely immersive.

With full gender equality at the Olympic Games

At the 1900 Paris Olympic Games, women took part for the first time. There were 22 of them. In 2024, there will be 5,250 – 50% of the athletes – meaning full gender equality will have been achieved for the first time in Games history. Paris 2024 is proud to be making this happen.

With the biggest Paralympic Games in history

Showing that sport and performance are open to all, and that diversity is a source of wealth, the Paralympic Games were first held in 1960, and will be bigger than ever before in 2024. With 549 events, 3.4 million tickets on sale and 300 hours of host-country broadcasting by France Télévision, the Paralympic Games will take place on an exceptional new scale.

“You too can be part of the Games!” – that’s the promise made by Le Club Paris 2024. Over half a million people have already been given a glimpse into the world’s greatest event and enjoyed unique experiences.In 2024, more than 40,000 volunteers will be involved in organising the Games. Their energy, motivation, individual qualities and enthusiasm will all make for a unique Games atmosphere.

With challenges open to the public

To become an Olympic athlete for the day is a dream come true thanks to Paris 2024. With the Mass Participation Marathon, spectators will become participants in the Games, testing their limits on the same day and under the same conditions as the Olympic athletes.

For every region

Spreading the Olympic and Paralympic spirit to even the tiniest village and getting the whole of France more involved in sport have become realities with the Terre de Jeux 2024 label, which has already been awarded to over 3,000 areas. The Paris 2024 Games belong to all of France, from the host communities to areas with Games Preparation Centres to the soon-to-be-announced Torch Relay host regions.

GAMES WIDE OPEN FOR THE FUTURE

For a transformed society

To change sport’s place in society, the seeds must be planted at a very young age – at school. With their 30 minutes of daily physical activity at school programme, Paris 2024 and the French Ministry of Education have already got 1.3 million children moving more every day. In the classroom, in the playground and in good spirit, sport is easy and for every day!

For greater inclusion

Diversity is a source of wealth. The Paralympic Games will help to change perceptions of disability by showcasing the sporting achievements of the world’s best para athletes and encouraging everyone to take part.

For regional transformation

Planning to build a sustainable legacy starts long before the Games. In passing on facilities that will benefit the regions involved and the people who live there, Paris 2024 is working to create a sustainable legacy, particularly in the Seine-Saint-Denis area, which will inherit 4,000 homes and around 20 pools.

For learning to do things differently

Meeting the challenge of ecological transformation deserves high-level preparation. Paris 2024 is committed to reducing the impact of the Paris 2024 Games, with a carbon footprint half that of previous Games.
