Venezuela's Yulimar Rojas proved she is still untouchable in the triple jump as she won her third consecutive World Athletics Championships gold medal in Eugene, Oregon.

After qualifying for the final with her very first jump, the 26-year-old was out in a league of her own in the final, with her winning mark of 15.47m coming on only her second attempt.

While the crowd waited expectantly for the possibility of more - even perhaps a world record, Rojas was unable to improve, which was just below the championship record of 15;50 and some 20cm less than her world record of 15.67m, set at last year's Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Jamaica had more to celebrate during these World Athletics Championships, with Shanieka Ricketts finishing second on 14.89. Third place went to home favourite Tori Franklin of the USA who posted a season's best of 14.72.

Rojas happy but not 100% satisfied

While she has another world championship gold in her medal collection, Rojas wasn't completely satisfied with how she jumped on the day.

"It is not the distance I wanted, but I am happy," she said. "It has been a beautiful day, even it hasn't been my best day during the event.

"I came here after a short preparation. I have recovered from injury. I think [this title] is a reward for perseverance, will and believing that I can achieve what I've achieved today.

"It feels different than Belgrade 2022 (World Indoors), but it is special as well because Oregon brings me good memories."

And on her aspirations to jump even farther in the future and reach the mystical 16m mark, the Caracas native declared that she is nearer than ever to achieving her goal.

"It is a goal that I have in mind. I am focused on that, she said. "It is my most important goal for now and I know that I am close. I feel that I have it in my legs, but I need to adjust some details. I hope to jump better in the next competition and to be able to reach that prodigious and important barrier."
