World Trampoline Championships 2023: Bryony Page and Yan Langyu secure second world titles - Results
Page delighted the home fans in Birmingham by winning women's individual gold with Yan also regaining his crown as five nations per gender obtained quota berths for Paris 2024.
The spectators roared as British trampoline star Bryony Page regained her world title at Arena Birmingham on Sunday (12 November).
The two-time Olympic medallist scored 56.680 to eclipse the 56.460 posted by People's Republic of China's Olympic champion Zhu Xueying.
"I'm just over-the-moon," Page told Olympics.com afterwards while admitting to an attack of the nerves prior to the competition. "I did the routine I wanted to. There's still more to come but I'm super happy and it's so special to do it in front of a home crowd."
USA's Jessica Stevens was thrilled to claim bronze (55.740), just a week after claiming two gold medals at the Pan American Games in Chile.
"Did you see that?" said Stevens excitedly after claiming bronze. "It's crazy. I am absolutely ecstatic. I just wanted to go out there and do my best and I couldn't be happier with that result."
Despite experiencing fatigue having travelled straight from Santiago, Stevens stated: "This is why I do it, for moments like these."
The men's competition could not have been much closer with just 0.01 points separating China's Yan Langyu and Wang Zisai.
Yan's 60.690 was enough for victory despite the 2021 champion drifting close to the edge of the trampoline on one element in an otherwise superb final routine.
Japan's Nishioka Ryusei, the 2021 silver medallist, also broke the 60-point mark with 60.640 to bag bronze.
First Paris 2024 quota spots secured for trampoline
The first quota berths for Paris 2024 were secured in Birmingham with 10 gymnasts obtaining spots for their nations for the Olympic Games – five in each of the men's and women's events.
China, Brazil, Canada, USA, and Great Britain secured quota berths in the women's individual trampoline discipline courtesy of finishing in the top eight in Saturday's semi-final with the caveat of one gymnast per nation.
China and Great Britain also obtained men's berths with Austria, Japan, and Portugal the other three nations securing spots.
Chinese trampolinists have won 14 out of 36 medals since the discipline made its Olympic debut at Sydney 2000.
Britain and Austria's men, and Brazil's women, will be making their first Olympic appearances in Paris.
*As National Olympic Committees have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games, athletes' participation at the Paris Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.
