World and European champion Vladislav Larin added another title to his belt when he won the men’s +80kg Taekwondo on Day 4 of competition at Tokyo 2020.

The Russian Olympic Committee athlete won gold after defeating Dejan Georgievski 22, of North Macedonia 15-9 at the Makuhari Messe Hall A on 27 July.

Larin had earlier roundly beaten Pita Taufatofua known as the “Shirtless Tongan” after he showed off his oiled abs in the Opening Ceremony. The 37-year-old suffered a similar fate against Slovenia’s Ivan Konrad Trajkovic, 29.

The Slovenian athlete was later overpowered in the first of the two bronze medal bouts by Asian champion Republic of Korea’s IN Kyo Don, 29.

The second bronze was awarded to Cuba’s Rafael Yunier Alba Castillo, 27, a silver medallist in the 2019 Pan American Game, defeated China’s SUN Hongyi, 27.

More to come.
