Ruta Meilutyte broke the women’s 50-metre breaststroke world record yet again, capturing gold in 29.16 seconds at the World Aquatics Championships 2023 in Fukuoka, Japan, on Sunday (30 July).

A day earlier in the semi-final in Fukuoka, Japan, the Lithuanian clocked a 29.30 and followed up with another world record on the last day of the meet.

“I am happy,” Meilutyte said. “I definitely felt it was possible. I am enjoying the process along the way.”

It was the second title at these championships for the London 2012 Olympic gold medallist, who also won the 100 breast here.

USA’s two-time Olympic champion Lilly King and Benedetta Pilato of Italy took silver (29.74) and bronze (30.04), respectively.
