Chinese divers Wang Zongyuan and Long Daoyi won the men's 3m synchronised gold at the World Aquatics Championships 2023 on Saturday (15 July) in Fukuoka, Japan, securing a quota for their country at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The other two places from the event for the Games next summer went to Great Britain after three-time Olympic medallist Jack Laugher/Anthony Harding placed second on 424.62, and the United States with Tyler Downs/Greg Duncan getting the bump up from fourth (385.23).

The French duo of Jules Bouyer/Alexis Jandard finished third (389.10) but were excluded from the allocation as hosts of the Games.

Wang/Long were a class apart, scoring 456.33. They put more than 31 points on the runners-up and capped their evening with a flawless dive of 100.32.

"I'm very happy. I want to thank my country and the team leaders for their patience, their care for me," said four-time world champion Wang, who topped the podium in the 3m synchro at Tokyo 2020 with Xie Siyi.

"Hopefully we can be even better in the future. I hope I can perform I always do and get a good result in Paris," added the 21-year-old, showing composure well beyond his years.

Wang is also entered in the individual 3m springboard scheduled for Wednesday.
