The People's Republic of China picked up more quotas for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in diving on Sunday (16 July) as teenagers Chen Yuxi and Quan Hongchan dominated the women's 10m synchronised platform event at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.

Seventeen-year-old Chen and Quan, 16, obliterated the field in the final with 369.84 points - 58.08 more than Great Britain's Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix/Lois Toulson.

Filling out the podium were the USA pair Delaney Schnell and Jessica Parratto with 294.42 points.

"I'm very happy," Chen said. "I'm very proud of this medal.

"I want to give myself a pat on the back for the effort, of getting to Paris."

The National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the top three finishers secured a quota for the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris.

Hosts Japan were third going into the fifth and final round, but Itahashi Minami/Arai Matsuri failed to come through with their dive scoring an average 54.00 and dropping them down to fifth place with a 284.76-point total.

"We lost it at the very, very end," Arai said. "I don't know why we always blow it."

A day earlier, Wang Zongyuan/Long Daoyi won the men's 3m synchronised springboard event to sew up a berth at Paris 2024 for China.

More Olympic diving quotas will be awarded on Monday, in the women's 3m synchronised springboard and the men's 10m synchronised platform.
