India’s Aditi Ashok will be in action at the Women’s British Open golf, which gets underway at the Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland.

One of the five Major championships in women’s golf, the tournament will be played from August 19 to 22.

Aditi, who finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics, is No. 157 in the world rankings.

The 23-year old Aditi qualified for the Women’s British Open with a second-place finish in the qualifiers held at Panmure Golf Club, close to Carnoustie.

Aditi carded two-under 68, while the other Indian in the fray, Tvesa Malik, ended T-29th and missed out on the 15 available spots for the Women’s British Open.

A T-22 finish at the Open in 2018 is Aditi’s best Major performance so far. She will be playing for the fifth time at the Women’s British Open, which returns to Carnoustie a decade after 2011.

The field will be a strong one, with 39 of the top 50 in the fray, including world No. 1 Nelly Korda as well as Germany’s Sophia Popov, the defending champion.

While the tournament begins at 11 AM local time (3.30 PM IST), Aditi is scheduled to tee off at 5.30 PM local time (9 PM IST), along with South Korea’s Park Sung-hyun and the USA’s Brittany Altomare.

Aditi had impressed at the Tokyo Olympics, staying close to eventual gold medallist Nelly Korda of the USA before finishing a single stroke behind Japan’s Mone Inami and New Zealand’s Lydia Ko, the silver and bronze medallists.

While Aditi’s putting had been impressive at Tokyo 2020, she has said her driving had suffered after contracting COVID-19 in May, which had affected her strength.
