Simone Biles will make her 2021 debut at the Tokyo World Cup, according to a recent interview with the Houston Chronicle. The event, scheduled for 4 May, is the Tokyo 2020 test event for gymnastics.

But even with that debut a little over two months away, Biles is already looking ahead to life after July’s Olympic Games.

The 19-time world champion announced Monday (1 March) five of the women who will join her on a 35-city tour across the United States. The five are 2016 Olympic gold medallist Laurie Hernandez, 2017 World all-around champion Morgan Hurd, and NCAA standouts Danusia Francis, Katelyn Ohashi and Peng Peng Lee.

The Tokyo World Cup will be Biles’ first event since taking five gold medals at the Stuttgart World Championships in October 2019. After that, she expects to compete at the U.S. championships in early June and U.S. Olympic trials later that month.

Then, she’ll – more than likely – be off to Tokyo where she’ll be the favourite to win five medals again, possibly all gold.

Monday’s announcement also means her fall schedule is set with the Olympic champion scheduled to crisscross the United States from 21 September to 7 November. The tour begins in Tuscon, Arizona and wraps up in Boston.

The show promises to be a “celebration of powerful female athletes who, together, are a united force proudly representing the sport of women’s gymnastics and inspiring the next generation of female athletes,” according to its website.

“I love the sport of gymnastics and want to help create a show that celebrates the pure joy of performing,” said Biles. “I believe there is GOLD inside of us all and it’s time to let that GOLD shine.”
