With five gold medals, India finish second at Adriatic Pearl Youth Boxing Tournament
The Indian contingent will return home with five gold, three silver and four medals from the event.
India's youth boxing contingent won 12 medals, including five golds, at the 30th Adriatic Pearl Tournament in Budva, Montenegro on Monday, finishing second on the overall tally behind Uzbekistan.
Babyrojisana Chanu (51kg) and Arundhati Choudhary (69kg) added two more gold medals for India on the final day while Lucky Rana settled for a silver medal in the 64kg category. India return home with five gold, three silver and four bronze medals from the prestigious youth tournament.
Chanu, who trains at legendary boxer MC Mary Kom's academy in Imphal, beat Uzbekistan boxer Sabina Bobokulova to clinch gold while Arundhati bagged her win against Maryana Stoiko of Ukraine in the summit clash. Lucky, meanwhile, lost to Finland's Lia Pukkila in the final.
Vinka (60kg), T Sanamacha Chanu (75kg), Alfiya Pathan (+81kg) are among the other Indian women pugilists to clinch gold medals in their respective categories while Gitika (48 kg) and Raj Sahiba (75 kg) bagged silvers. Neha (54kg) and Preeti (57 kg) added bronze medals to the women's team's tally while Priyanshu (49 kg) and Jugnoo (+91kg) won a couple of bronze medals in the men's events.
In fact, India were positioned first in the women's section, with 10 medals.
Vinka was adjudged the Best Woman Boxer of the Tournament for her magnificent win in her weight category.
A 12-medal haul by the 19-member certainly contingent bodes well for the future of Indian boxing.
