Wimbledon 2024 – men’s singles semi-final lineup

Defending champion Alcaraz and fifth seed Daniil Medvedev will meet in a blockbuster battle in the first men’s semi-final, a repeat of last year where the Spaniard won in an easy straight sets. Both men had to come back from a set down to win in the quarters, with Medvedev doing so over a dramatic five-setter against world number one Jannik Sinner.

For Medvedev, it is about avenging himself against the same man who knocked him out at the same stage in 2023. Alcaraz is growing from strength to strength throughout the tournament, and after defeating American Tommy Paul 5-7 6-4 6-2 6-2 in the last round, the third seed will fancy his chances to return to the final.

In the other semi-final, Italy's Lorenzo Musetti will take on seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic on Centre Court. Musetti, another 22-year-old Italian like Sinner, progressed to his first semi at SW19 in London after defeating the American Fritz 3-6 7-6(5) 6-2 3-6 6-1 on Wednesday (10 July).

Djokovic made it through his quarter-final without hitting a ball, as Australian Alex de Minaur had to withdraw due to an injury sustained on his match-winning point in the previous round. The Serbian star had been recovering from a meniscus injury suffered at the French Open, but is now a game away from his sixth straight Wimbledon final - and a potential record-setting 25th major win.

Wimbledon 2024 – women’s singles semi-final lineup

Only one of the top four seeds has made it into the women’s singles semi-finals: Wimbledon 2022 champion Rybakina, who will take on Olympic women’s doubles champion Barbora Krejcikova.

Both players made it through their quarter-finals in straight sets, as Rybakina cruised past Elina Svitolina 6-3 6-2 while Krejcikova overcame Jelena Ostapenko in a clash of two former Roland-Garros champions. Krejcikova used her all-court game in a 6-4 7-6(4) win over the power-hitting Latvian.

Rybakina will aim to buck a trend by winning her second Wimbledon title this year, where the last six women’s singles winners have been first-time champions.

Meanwhile, Krejcikova is into her first Wimbledon semi-final and fell just short of a second one in the women’s doubles with teammate Laura Siegemund. They fell to second seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe in the quarter-finals on Wednesday (10 July), 6-4 6-7(5) 6-4.

There is an assured new face in the final as Donna Vekic and Jasmine Paolini face off in the other semi-final. Vekic came from a set down against qualifier and surprise package Lulu Sun to win 5-7 6-4 6-1, becoming the first Croat since Mirjana Lucic to reach the women’s singles semi-finals in a quarter of a century (1999).

Standing in her way is Italian starlet Paolini, who is enjoying the season of her life and off the back of a comprehensive victory over American Emma Navarro. The world number seven is aiming for consecutive grand slam finals, though will hope to go one step further than the 2024 French Open in June, where she was humbled by world No.1 Iga Swiatek.
