Watch the Torch Lighting Ceremony

“Let there be light,” said Yoggl, as the flame for the first Winter Youth Olympic Games was lit in a spectacular ceremony held in Athens, Greece, the home of the ancient Olympic Games today.

Complete with a star appearance by none other than a priestess from the Temple of Hera passing on the torch in the ancient Panathinaiko Stadium to the first relay runner (the winner of the Virtual Torch Relay), the ceremony followed century-old Olympic traditions, and you can relive all the action in a live recording here.

The flame is now on its way to the host city of Innsbruck, where it will embark on a country-wide torch relay on 27 December before returning for the official opening of the Games on 13 January.
