On the hunt for his fourth Olympic gold medal, USA’s Vincent Hancock continued to reign supreme at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 and will stand on top the podium for the fourth time, taking the men’s skeet gold in four of his five Olympic appearances.

This marked only the fifth time in history that an American has taken four Olympic gold medals in the same event.

It was a very close competition between him and his American teammate, Conner Prince, who held a draw with Hancock in the final moments of competition as the two battled for the gold, but after Prince missed his 54th shot, the now four-time champion took the lead through end.

The result is as good as it could have gotten, according to Hancock, who said “I really wanted him (Prince) to win, but at the same time I also wanted to win. I’ve always told him, ‘I’m going to teach you everything I know,’ and it couldn’t have worked out any better, whether it was gold or silver.”

Hancock missed just two of 60 targets and held the lead for the entire competition, in a draw for first at times.

“It’s like a dream come true … again. It feels awesome. I couldn’t ask for any better,” he said.

“This was the hardest one yet. It seems like every time it gets harder.”

Huge cheers came from the audience at the Chateauroux Shooting Center for both of the American shooters, who celebrated each other as placing was decided.

“When people say it is a dream, it truly is. It didn’t feel real, but it is. It is where I am now. It couldn’t be more real right now,” Prince said.

Also elated about standing next to his teammate on the podium, he said “[Hancock] is my coach and he’s the man to beat. He’s probably the greatest shooter in the world, and for him to go No.1 and me No.2, it is honestly a dream.”

Chinese Taipei’s Lee Meng Yuan took the bronze medal after coming into the competition as the Asian champion.
