For the first time since 2016, the U.S. women qualified a field hockey team for the Olympics. The team is on fire with Paris right around the corner.

The United States Women’s Field Hockey Team are eyeing Olympic history at Paris 2024 after an impressive run at the FIH Olympic Qualifiers in Ranchi, India.

The team upset World No. 8 India and No. 11 New Zealand and didn’t concede a single goal until the second half of their final match against the eventual champions, Germany.

Co-captains Ashley Hoffman and Amanda Golini are leading the charge as the United Eagles look to redefine U.S. Women’s Hockey in the lead-up to the 2024 Summer Games.

Full of fresh faces, with no players with Olympic experience, read on to get to know the players of the United Eagles.

Meet the United Eagles

Co-captain Golini is a stand-out national team player, who has racked up 139 caps with the Eagles and scored 14 goals. She was first named to the U-21 National Team in 2014, just five years after picking up the sport.

Hoffman, the other co-captain, was a key part of the Eagles’ success in Ranchi, scoring two of their five goals in the tournament. The 27-year-old Pennsylvania native was named to the national team in 2017 and has racked up 116 caps since.

Following the win against Japan that solidified their Olympic qualification, Hoffman posted a celebratory photo on her Instagram and captioned it “FLY AS ONE, UNITED EAGLES FOR VICTORY HERE WE COME."

Midfielder Beth Yeager also racked up two goals in the first two games of the tournament in Ranchi.

The player of the match in both games against Italy and New Zealand was midfielder Maddie Zimmer. The Pennsylvania native has seen similar accolades before, being named NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 2021.

According to USA Hockey, rookie Abigail Tamer is an athlete to follow in the lead up to Paris. With just 20 caps to her name, she scored the fifth and final goal for Team USA, officially securing their Olympic Qualification in a semifinal win over Japan.

A key member of their almost-impenetrable defense in India, keeper Kelsey Bing proved herself invaluable to the team by keeping her opponents at bay until the second half of the final game of the tournament.

The official 12-player Olympic roster will be announced in mid-June, USA Field Hockey told Olympics.com.
