For the last seven of eight editions of the World Athletics Championships, the focus has been on one sprinter in the women’s 100m - Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Rightly so, she’s a five-time 100m world champion, making her the most successful athlete of the event, male or female.

Then there's also the three fastest women this season topped by her countrymate Shericka Jackson, American champion Sha’Carri Richardson, African record holder Marie-Jose Ta-Lou and Saint Lucia’s five-time NCAA winner Julien Alfred.

Here’s who to watch and how to follow the women’s 100m action from the National Athletics Centre in Budapest.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is still the favourite

Most predictions favour Fraser-Pryce the eight-time Olympic medallist to succeed at her seventh World Championship appearance despite being hampered by a knee injury this season.

The 36-year-old tops the Jamaican list of four that also includes the Jamaican National Championships winner Jackson, Shashalee Forbes and Briana Williams.

Even without Elaine Thompson-Herah, the fastest woman alive, the Jamaicans could easily repeat their sweep of the 100m medals from Oregon 2022.

But there’s the ever-consistent Ta Lou, who looks primed for her first championship gold and has only suffered one loss this season.

The Commonwealth silver medallist who ended Richardson's unbeaten run here in Budapest last month is also highly tipped to bag a medal.
