Indian shooters Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary will start as favourites in the 10m air pistol mixed team event at the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday.

In Tokyo 2020 so far, Saurabh Chaudhary was the only Indian shooter to make it to a final - in the men’s individual pistol - where he finished seventh.

Manu Bhaker, meanwhile, was unable to make the women’s individual pistol final as her gun malfunctioned during qualifying and she came under immense time pressure.

Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary have been very successful as a pair - winning five golds and a silver at ISSF World Cups - and will look to add an Olympic medal to that list.

Also in action in the 10m air pistol mixed team will be the pair of Abhishek Verma/Yashaswini Singh Deswal.

The other Indian shooters to watch out for will be the pair of Elavenil Valarivan/Divyansh Singh Panwar in the 10m air rifle mixed team. Anjum Moudgil will make her Olympics debut alongside Deepak Kumar in the same event.

Both the 10m air pistol and 10m air rifle mixed team events begin with the first qualification stage after which the top eight pairs progress to the second qualification stage. The top two pairs at the end of the second qualification stage will contest the gold-medal match while the third and fourth-placed pairs will play the bronze-medal match.

In other sports, the badminton pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy could seal their spot in the men’s doubles quarter-finals if they win their final group game.

Veteran Sharath Kamal faces an uphill task against reigning Olympic and world table tennis champion Ma Long of China in the third round of the men’s singles.
