2024 has been a record year for Jannik Sinner.

The tennis star ends the year as world number one, the first time an Italian has achieved this feat, capturing two of the Grand Slams and winning the ATP Finals.

Sinner won eight ATP titles during the season, both a personal and national record, surpassing 50 victories for the second straight year and reaching 70 for the first time.

In his final match of 2024, the 23-year-old guided Italy to back-to-back Davis Cup titles, defeating Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands in straight sets.

These are the numbers in the extraordinary career so far of Sinner.

Jannik Sinner’s rise to the top

The first of Sinner’s 18 ATP singles titles came in 2020, where he overcame Vasek Pospisil to win the ATP 250 Sofia Open.

With that debut title in Bulgaria, the then 19-year-old became the youngest player to win an ATP title in 12 years, as well as the youngest Italian champion on tour in the Open Era.

The following year, Sinner won four titles and reached his first ATP Masters 1000 title at the Miami Open, as well as making his ATP Finals debut and breaking into the top 10 ranked players in the world.

After winning just one title in 2022, 2023 was the year that the Italian really started to break through into the top ranks of tennis.

The boy from South Tyrol won his first Masters 1000 title in Toronto at the Canadian Open, one of four singles titles, and accumulated a remarkable 64 singles wins.

His standout moment though was helping Italy win the Davis Cup for the first time since 1976, ending the year as world no. 4.

Sinner’s statement 2024

Sinner well and truly announced himself as one of tennis’ kingpins in the 2024 season, winning the most matches (70) and titles (eight) in his career so far.

The Italian kicked off the year with his first Grand Slam at the Australian Open, handing defending champion Novak Djokovic his first defeat at the tournament in six years.

Sinner completed the hard court double by triumphing at the US Open eight months later, this time overcoming home favourite Taylor Fritz in straight sets.

The Italian also added three Masters 1000 titles, two ATP 500 trophies and the ATP Finals title in front of an adoring home crowd in Turin, as he became the first Italian to reach world number one and finish the year on top.

Sinner’s final task of 2024 was to guide Italy to back-to-back Davis Cup titles, where at the Davis Cup 2024 Final 8, he won all fiur of his matches without dropping a set as the Azzurri wrote history and won their third Davis Cup.
