The People's Republic of China swimmers Pan Zhanle, Wang Haoyu, Li Bingjie and Yu Yiting dominated the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay final to claim the gold medal Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships on Saturday (17 February).

Newly minted 100m freestyle world champion and world record holder Pan swam lead-off, laying a solid foundation for the rest of the foursome. At the change-over with Wang, the Chinese had opened some clear water between them and the chasing pack.

The Australian team threatened to reel them in, but the flying Chinese squad showed no sign of slowing down. Distance ace Li, who won silver in the 400m and 1,500m freestyle at these championships, showed impressive speed swimming the third leg.

Yu then delivered the knockout blow on the anchor hitting the wall a body length ahead of the second-placed Australians in a time of three minutes, 21.18 seconds (3:21.18). Australia touched second in 3:21.78, with the quartet from the United States finishing third in 3:22.28.

It's the fourth relay gold for China at Doha 2024.
