Tokyo 2020 Olympic all-around champion Suni Lee's petition to compete in the all-around at the upcoming U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Ft. Worth, Texas, has been approved, according to a tweet from USA Gymnastics.

Lee, who has been battling a kidney-related health issue for over a year, has not competed on all four events in the same competition since February 2023 as part of her sophomore campaign at Auburn University.

Over the 2024 season, Lee has competed each of the four events at least one time. At the recent U.S. Classic, she competed on three events (vault, balance beam, floor exercise) as part of an approach to manage her health ahead of the final push toward Paris 2024.

Longtime coach Jess Graba was confident in his pupil's ability to compete across all four at the U.S. nationals and explained the strategy.

"I think we'll be all right in the all-around. We couldn't do the all-around [here] just because of the petition process, right? So we had to choose one [event to skip], and we haven't done a floor routine in a while," he said after the U.S. Classic. "I'm not that concerned about it, but we needed to get floor out of the way. We really wanted to get beam under pressure, and since it was last, we kind of wanted that."

The first day of women's competition at the U.S. championships is Friday (31 May).
