Sturla Holm Lægreid put on a shooting masterclass to clinch the men's 20 km individual gold at the 2021 Biathlon World Championships in Pokljuka, Slovenia, on Wednesday (17 February).

The Norwegian finished in 49:27:6 to also seal his nation's first men's individual title of the event, and the crystal globe for individual races this season.

German 10km Olympic champion Arnd Peiffer finished second, with Norway's Johannes Dale in third.

Two missed targets pushed 20km Olympic champion Johannes Thingnes Bo out of the medals, but the Norwegian retains his overall lead.

"Its hard to believe. It's something I have dreamt about all my life and even though I've had a good season, I didn’t expect to become world champion," Lægreid said after the race.

"I just had to stay focused and deliver my good shots.. I was extremely happy to hear that I was ahead of second, but was also very tired, so the last part of the race was a struggle against myself."
