The Southeast Asian Games 2023, held in the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh, featured eight different cricket tournaments across four formats - 50 overs, T20, T10 and 6s (six-a-side). There were men’s and women’s events in each format.

Six countries - Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand - participated in the men’s events while Myanmar were the seventh team in the women’s competition.

Vietnam were expected to compete but withdrew. Only hosts Cambodia featured in all eight events.

There was a special focus on the T20 tournaments, which have been granted full T20 International (T20I) status and offered ranking points for the teams.

Barring the men’s 6s tournament at the SEA Games 2023, the seven other cricket events had gold medal and bronze medal playoff matches. In the men’s 6s events, all teams played each other once and the top three teams won the three medals.

The SEA Games 2023 cricket matches started on April 29, almost a week ahead of the official opening ceremony on May 5.

All cricket matches in the 2023 SEA Games were played at the AZ Group Cricket Oval in Phnom Penh.

This was only the second time that cricket was played at the SEA Games. The sport made its debut at the SEA Games in 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, which included T20 and 50-over tournaments for men and a women’s T20 competition.

Hosts Singapore won the men’s T20 gold medal while Malaysia and Thailand won the men’s 50 overs and women’s T20 crowns, respectively.
