Japanese skater Onodera Ginwoo continued his blistering rise at the skateboarding street world championships 2022 in 2023 after coming out on top of the men's semi-finals on Saturday (4 February).
Leading the final heat after the run section, the 12-year-old maintained his hot form throughout the best of five trick segment, putting down a kickflip frontside bluntslide spin out to claim one of the only three 90-plus scores of the night.
Onodera, who has been a revelation at the Aljada skate park, has become a top prospect for Japan after the surprise early exit of Horigome Yuto in the competition's open qualifying round.
Hot on the younger rider's heels was Jagger Eaton.
The 21-year-oldTokyo 2020 bronze medallist advanced to tomorrow's final in second ahead of Portugal's Gustavo Ribeiro who finished in third.
The biggest trick score of the night went to Aurelien Giraud who flashed the depth of his power when he put down a frontside 360 kickflip down the course's triple set for a 90.53 score.
Olympic silver medallist Kelvin Hoefler qualified for the final in seventh place despite picking up an injury to his wrist during the best trick segment. The 29-year-old Brazilian made it through with his final trick - a cab backside tailside fakie - to book his place in tomorrow's final.
This week’s street world championship is also doubling up as a Paris 2024 qualifier with Olympic World Skateboard Ranking (OWSR) points on offer based on the final results.
The men's finals will begin on Sunday 5 February at 18:10 (GST).
