Sifan Hassan was hoping to be the new world record holder in the women’s 5,000m. But she missed the mark on Friday evening by clocking a time of 14:27.89 at the Diamond League meeting in Eugene, USA.

The record of 14:06.62 set in Valencia, Spain, by Ethiopia’s Letesenbet Gidey in 2020 remains in tact.

The Dutch runner won both the 5,000m and 10,000m titles at the Olympic Games. She also took a bronze medal in the 1,500m at Tokyo 2020.
