Shooting stars to watch at Paris 2024 Olympics
Shooting will provide some headline stories on many days at Paris 2024, from the first medal awarded in these Olympic Games, to possible historic medal hauls being achieved. Few will attract as much attention as Nino Salukvadze, the Georgian pistol shooter who will be competing at her 10th consecutive Olympics, the first athlete to compete in ten straight Games in any sport.
No less than 81 National Olympic Committees (NOC's), and the IOC Refugee Olympic Team are being represented in shooting competitions in France. The hosts have 15 athletes including defending 25m rapid-fire pistol champion Jean Quiquampoix.
For the USA, Vincent Hancock is one to watch, as he aims for a fourth men's skeet title in shotgun.
China and India will have the largest shooting teams at the Games, with 21 each. Look out for Manu Bhaker, the Indian competing in two women's pistol events and aiming to add an Olympic medal to her Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic gold and silver.
There are two members of the IOC Refugee Olympic Team on the start lists - Edilio Centeno Nieves (10m air pistol men) and Tokyo Olympian Luna Solomon (10m air rifle women).
The total of 340 athletes is slightly lower than the 360 who took part in shooting competitions at Tokyo 2020 in 2021.
