Paris 2024 Paralympics I Schedule, favourites... everything you need to know about the sitting volleyball tournament
Sitting volleyball is a variant of volleyball. It is played by two teams of six players who use their arms to move around on the floor during matches. With its smaller court and lower net than Olympic volleyball, sitting volleyball is a fast-paced game with intense matches. Introducing the Paralympic tournaments for the Paris 2024 Games!
Where?
The two sitting volleyball tournaments will be held at the Arena Paris Nord. The Arena Paris Nord is located in the Villepinte exhibition centre in Seine-Saint-Denis.
For the duration of the Games, it will be transformed into a huge modular sports arena, known as the Arena Paris Nord. A gigantic space with nine exhibition halls, it is the largest exhibition centre in France, ahead of the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre, which is also hosting Games events. The Arena Paris Nord is the perfect place to come and experience some of the thrilling seated volleyball tournaments.
When?
The men's and women's competitions start on the same day, 29 August. The matches will continue until 6 September for the men (final at 7.30pm) and 7 September for the women (final at 7.30pm). Over the period, all competitions combined, there will be 36 matches to follow.
Which nations?
Two nations stand out from the crowd ahead of the competition. In the men's tournament, it's hard not to think of the unstoppable Islamic Republic of Iran, seven-time gold medallists. Obviously, Morteza Mehrzad's team-mates will be the overwhelming favourites.
On the women's side, Team USA will also be in contention for the title. Winners in Tokyo, the Americans will be looking to double their tally.
