India's Rohan Bopanna and his Croatian men's doubles partner Ivan Dodig progressed to the round of 16 at US Open 2021 tennis on Saturday.

Rohan Bopanna-Ivan Dodig beat France’s Arthur Rinderknech and Monaco’s Hugo Nys 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in their second round fixture at the Flushing Meadows to make it to the final 16 of the competition.

The Indo-Croatian duo, the 13th seeds at the competition, defeated Australia’s James Duckworth and Jordan Thompson in the opening round.

With the second round match going into the third set, Rohan Bopanna-Ivan Dodig broke their opponents in the very first game of the decider and held onto the advantage from there on to take the win. The match lasted one hour and 56 minutes.

Rohan Bopanna and Ivan Dodig will next face the fourth-seeded team of USA's Rajeev Ram and Great Britain's Joe Salisbury.

Ram-Salisbury are the Australian Open 2020 doubles champions.

Rohan Bopanna is the lone remaining Indian still competing at the US Open 2021.

Sania Mirza exited from both women’s and mixed doubles in the opening round while Divij Sharan, in men's doubles, and Ankita Raina, in women's doubles, also bowed out after the first round.

India did not have representation in the singles, with all contenders failing to make it past the qualifiers.
