PV Sindhu: I would like to have breakfast with Serena Williams
Find out when Olympic silver medalist Sindhu trains, what's on her plate for breakfast and her favourite travel destinations
PV Sindhu might be India's sole representative in the women's singles at the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympics which start on July 23rd 2021. She has notched up some decent performances so far this year after returning from the break due to coronavirus. Sindhu made it through to the final of the Swiss Open and the semi-final of the All England Open.
She is currently preparing for Tokyo 2020 and is leaving no stone unturned to return to the podium at the Olympics.
The 25-year-old Olympic silver medallist wakes up at six in order to start her daily preparations.
"I’m used to getting up early for practice but I’m also a night person. I used to be up around 4.15 am at one point. Now I wake up at 6 in the morning. I say night person because when we travel, we have late flights, at 2 or 3 am. So I’m used to that also. I need a minimum of 6-7 hours of sleep. I also sleep in the afternoon for one and a half or two hours. And I do my gym work in the evening," she told moneycontrol.
However, to err is human and Sindhu also sometimes misses out on a morning alarm, and then she has to hurry.
"Yes, at times the alarm goes off and you are too tired to notice. And then you get up after some time and realise you are late and rush for practice. It’s fun and it happens to everyone. But it doesn’t happen very often at tournaments. Because then we are very focused on the schedule."
Usually, Sindhu leaves home at 6.40 am, and by 7 she starts warming up. After half an hour, when the engines are ready to rumble she will get to the court and start her training. During practice, she makes it a point not to touch her phone and checks it only after she is done with her work.
Dosa is her favourite breakfast when she is in India, whereas pancakes are on her plate when she is abroad. So who would be her ideal breakfast companion?
"Serena Williams. I also like it when people are jovial and friendly and greet you in the morning, ask how you are. I think that is very nice."
The ace shuttler is also a travel enthusiast and likes to visit European countries.
"I would say Paris, London and Switzerland. When the weather is nice the morning sky is clear and there is a cool breeze. It is peaceful to be with myself and just walk around."
Sindhu is currently training at the Gachibowli indoor stadium in Telengana and does her fitness training at the Suchitra academy.
