In what is a truly landmark move, global consumer goods powerhouse - and worldwide Olympic partner - P&G announced on Tuesday (14 May) that it will be sponsoring the newly introduced Olympic Village Nursery across Paris 2024 through its leading brand Pampers.

For the first time in Olympic and Paralympic history, a nursery within the Village will provide a ‘comfortable and convenient’ environment for athlete parents to spend time with their children during the Olympic Games.

P&G’s well-known brand Pampers will offer access to high-quality diapers and wipes while providing a space for playtime and family bonding.

It marks yet another monumental step forward in the IOC’s commitment to those competing, but also encourages open conversation on challenges parents may face.

“Many athletes are balancing their sporting careers and family,” said IOC Athletes’ Commission Chair Emma Terho.

“I know how this feels as I competed at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games as a mother with a young child.

“It is very helpful for both parents and infants to be able to spend time together, especially at such an important moment in an athlete’s sporting life.”

The nursery will be located in the non-residential area in the Olympic Village Plaza, open from 9am to 9pm daily for visitors with a guest pass.

It is a move that will urge important conversation on being an athlete and starting a family, which two-time Olympian Jessica Ennis-Hill believes we ‘should feel comfortable’ having.

“I kind of went through my own journey having my son within sport,” she told Olympics.com.

“Learning about me as an athlete but also myself as a woman and how your body changes so much.

“I think that is something that is not spoken about enough - how do our bodies change as women in sports? What differences do we have? How could we put more research into understanding?

“We are slowly talk more and more about it, there are mot athletes coming out and speaking openly about it but I think it is a conversation that is really important and we should feel comfortable having it.”

P&G’s commitment to the upcoming Games does not stop with the nursery, making its products available for several purposes.

The following brands will also be utilised by athletes across the summer:

  • Pantene, Head & Shoulders, Mielle, Gillette and Braun will provide complimentary beauty and grooming treatments designed for all athletes to help them look and feel their best so they focus on giving their best when it matters the most.
  • Ariel: Athletes will experience outstanding cleaning performance when they bring their clothes and uniforms to the laundry rooms for cold-wash laundry services supplied by Ariel.
  • Oral-B: Giving athletes the confidence to compete with healthy smiles, Oral-B will offer athletes access to general and emergency dental services.
  • Always and Tampax will provide complimentary period protection products in the restrooms across the Athletes’ Village.
  • P&G Everday Champions Welcome Kit: Each ath;ete will receive a Parisian-themed reusable bag equipped with P&G brand products to support their health and hygiene needs during Paris 2024.

“As the maker of household and person care products, we listen intently to consumers around the world to understand what they need to give their best every day,” said P&G Chief Brand Officer Marc Pritchard.

“We take this same approach to our Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partnership.

“Whether you’re an athlete on the road to gold medal glory or the marathon of your own life, our brands commit to delivering superior performance for people who count on us in their everyday lives.”
