For the first time in 45 years, the FIBA World Cup is returning to the Philippines.
The archipelagic basketball-loving powerhouse last hosted the tournament back in 1978 and will do so again along with Japan and Indonesia from 25 August to 10 September.
As one of the host countries, the Philippines secured their spot at the 2023 edition of the quadrennial tournament with a 2-2 record in the qualifiers.
This World Cup, they will be looking to improve on their 2019 finish after they failed to make it out of the initial phase of the competition.
While it might not have been pretty previously, there will be plenty for the local fans to cheer on when the Gilas Pilipinas begin their campaign in Manila.
With NBA star Jordan Clarkson at the helm, the home team is feeling buoyed - and with good reason.
The Utah Jazz sharpshooter is coming off a career season and will undoubtedly be the main attraction when the tournament gets underway.
Look out too for 21-year-old big man Kai Sotto who is officially fit and in the fold.
