Another meeting, another win for pole vault king Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis, but the Swedish star just missed out on another world record at the Paris Diamond League meeting on Sunday (7 July).

Highlighting his absolute dominance in the pole vault event, Duplantis has won every outdoor competition this season with heights of six metres and higher.

After the world and Olympic champion had sealed victory over Sam Kendricks with a vault of 6.00m, Duplantis asked the bar to be raised one centimetre higher than his current world record of 6.24m set at April's Xiamen Diamond League meet.

But the 24-year-old will have to wait until the Olympic Games to try again for new figures in Paris after he had three failures at 6.25m at the Stade Charléty.

Two-time world champion Kendricks took the lead with a season’s best vault of 5.95m at the first attempt only to see Duplantis follow suit. Frenchman Thibaut Collet rounded out the podium with a best clearance of 5.85m.

Kendricks looks to be coming into form with Paris 2024 just weeks away. The American has not cleared six metres since his 6.02m at the Athletissima meeting in Lausanne city centre in September 2020 which saw him take second behind Duplantis.
