Paris 2024 reveals the start time for the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony on the Seine
As anticipation builds for the world's most eagerly awaited sporting event, Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet has announced the start time for the historic Opening Ceremony on the Seine.
On 26 July 2024, the largest-ever Olympic Games Opening Ceremony will take place. Paris 2024 has now revealed the start time for the ceremony, with the event beginning at 7.30 p.m. CET (10.30 a.m. in Los Angeles, 2.30 p.m. in Rio de Janeiro, 6.30 p.m. in London and 8.30 p.m. in Athens).
The Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 promises to be an unprecedented experience drawing on the natural light of the setting sun with all its nuances to illuminate the world’s best athletes as they travel down the Seine, in the heart of the French capital. Paris 2024 chose this moment to synchronise the fall of dusk and the narration of the ceremony, offering an unforgettable spectacle, both by day and by night, for all spectators and television viewers, in harmony with nature and the outdoor environment.
The Games of the XXXIII Olympiad will begin on the water at 7.30 pm Paris time. A 6km crossing along the Seine will follow, featuring artistic performances in a living setting. In all, 12 artistic tableaux will showcase Paris, its monuments and bridges along the way. Several thousand athletes will be on the water, watched by hundreds of thousands of spectators.
Tony Estanguet: "A truly poetic dimension"
Sailing from east to west across Paris, from the Pont d'Austerlitz to the Trocadero, the athletes will pass by some of the city's most beautiful monuments: Notre-Dame de Paris, the Louvre, the Pont des Arts, the Musée d'Orsay. Several of those same landmarks will be the locations in which they fight for medals during the 16 days of competition at the Olympic Games.
"We are delighted to have an opening ceremony that illustrates the meeting between sport and the city in the most beautiful way. With the natural light of the setting sun, the event will be even more sublime, with a truly poetic dimension, inviting both athletes and the public to appreciate the natural beauty of the City of Light," said Tony Estanguet, President of Paris 2024.
The Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games promises to be a unique multi-sensory spectacle with an innovative approach that underlines the desire to take sport out of the stadiums and open up the Games.
