Great Britain's Sky Brown has been given the green light to compete in the women's park skateboarding event at Paris 2024 despite suffering a dislocated shoulder.

Brown, who became Britain’s youngest-ever medallist at Tokyo 2020 after winning bronze, reportedly picked up the injury 24 hours before flying out to France for the Paris Games.

The 16-year-old Brown told the BBC she has since been assessed by Team GB doctors and physios who have cleared her to compete in Paris.

"It was really scary," Brown said. "My shoulder being out and I couldn't get it back in. My dad put it in for me.

"When I get back I'll have to do surgery, so it doesn't come out again. They're bringing some braces tomorrow and I will try it out and have to be strapped for every time I skate."

It will be the second time the teenager has had to overcome significant injury this year.

In April, Brown tore the medial collateral ligament in her right knee while filming and was forced to miss the first Olympic Qualifier Series stop in Shanghai.

She returned for the second event in Budapest a month later where finished in second place to secure her quota for Paris 2024, competing with her knee still in a brace.

The countdown is now on for the young Briton who has just days to adjust to her new normal. The women's park event will take place on Tuesday, 6 August with official practice beginning on Friday, 2 August.

Brown has a well-recorded history of bouncing back from setbacks.

In 2020, the teen suffered a horrific fall while skating on a vert ramp. Photos of the 2023 world champion showed her in hospital recovering from a fractured skull and broken left wrist.
