Paris 2024 Paralympics: what is this award given to athletes on the podium at the same time as their medals?
Since Thursday 29 August and the launch of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, there has been one podium after another at the various competition venues. After the posters handed out during the Olympic competitions, the medallists are now being presented with Phryges.
During the winners' ceremonies at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, the Para athletes on the podium are presented with their medals. During this ceremony, they are also presented with another gift. While it was the official event poster that was given out during the Olympic period, this time it was the Phryges that were given to the top three finishers.
They receive gold, silver or bronze medal mascots made in France at the Doudou & Compagnie factory in La Guerche-de-Bretagne. Gold, silver or bronze are represented by the medal emblem sewn onto the mascot's belly, by the colour of the trainer and prosthesis, and also by the text ‘Bravo’ written in Braille on the back of the Phryge.
It should also be noted that the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games poster will be presented to the medallists... but at a later date, out of sight.
