At the age of 44, Fabien Lamirault will once again be aiming for Paralympic gold after his titles at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. He hopes to make Para table tennis history.

Born in 1980 in Essonne, near Paris, Fabien Lamirault first tried his hand at boxing and then handball. In 1998, his life was turned upside down when he became a quadriplegic following a car accident. I was in a rehabilitation centre that he discovered Para table tennis by chance.

He liked the sport and very quickly felt the urge to take part in competitions. One training session followed another and, like a fighter, Fabien Lamirault kept at it.

A meteoric rise

He took part in his first competition in 2003, but it was in 2011, at the European Championships, that he won his first team silver medal (class 2). The native of the Ile-de-France region went on to enjoy a meteoric rise. Indeed, since the London 2012 Paralympic Games, he has won a whole string of medals.

He has won no fewer than 14 international gold medals (including 3 at the Paralympic Games and 4 at the World Championships), 2 silver and 2 bronze.

In short, an impressive track record that makes him, without a doubt, one of France's best medal chances at these Paris 2024 Paralympic Games!
