Paris 2024 Paralympic Games: Preview to 4 September with Markus Rehm, Marie Patouillet, and Oksana Masters in action

Wednesday, September 4, marks day seven of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games with 14 sports in competition and gold medals ready to be awarded in 10 sports: Para archery, Para athletics, Para equestrian, Para swimming, Para table tennis, shooting Para sport, wheelchair fencing and wheelchair tennis.

This seventh day of competition also marks the start of Para powerlifting competitions at the Arena Porte de La Chapelle and Para cycling road kicks off at the Clichy-sous-Bois circuit with a stacked field of competitors.

Top French athletes to watch

The time trials of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games Para cycling road circuit features no fewer than 15 French riders competing, including Heïdi Gaugain coming off her silver medal win, Marie Patouillet going for her third Paralympic medal at these Games, and Alexandre Léauté looking to better his Tokyo 2020 bronze medal to start the day.

On the Para athletics track at the Stade de France, Pierre Fairbank will compete in the 100m T53, while Dimitri Pavadé will aim for a medal in the long jump T64.

Para powerlifting competitions will feature Alex Adélaïde in the up to 49 kg category and Axel Bourlon in the up to 54kg category.

In wheelchair tennis, the Stéphane Houdet/Frédéric Cattanéo double meet Great Britain's Alfie Hewett/Gordon Reid double in the semi-finals.

In Para swimming there will be three entries for the French team: Kylian Portal in the 100m freestyle S12, Léane Morceau in the 100m freestyle S12 and Assya Maurin-Espiau in the 200m medley SM14.

In Para archery, at Les Invalides, Guillaume Toucoullet will take part in his individual Open recurve bow competition with a round of 16 scheduled.

Top events to watch

At the Stade de France, German long jumper Markus Rehm (“The Blade Jumper”) will be looking to win a fourth consecutive gold medal in the T64 division. And Switzerland’s Catherine Debrunner will be looking to add to her three gold medals here in Paris, competing in the women's 100m T53.

In Para swimming, Team USA’s most decorated Paralympic athlete, Jessica Long is competing in the 400m freestyle S8 looking for her 17th gold medal.

At the Grand Palais, Italian fencing sensation Beatrice Maria Vio Grandis (‘Bebe’ Vio), will be making her Paris debut looking to add to the foil B titles she won at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

In Para archery, Team USA's 15-year-old Jordan White will make his Paralympic debut in the men's individual recurve open.

And in Para cycling, Team USA’s Oksana Masters will be back to defend her Tokyo 2020 gold medal in the H4-5 individual time trial. And the Netherlands, Jetze Plat, the three-time Para triathlon gold medallists, and Tristan Bangma, fresh from his men's B 4000m individual pursuit gold in Para track cycling, will also compete in the individual time trial—Plat in the men’s H4 division and Bangma in men’s B.

At the historic Stade Roland-Garros, wheelchair tennis will see its first medallists with the quad doubles gold medal match between the Netherlands’ Sam Schroder/Niels Vink and Great Britain’s Andy Lapthorne/Gregory Slade.
