Aleksandra Miroslaw wasn't messing around in the women's speed event qualification round on the first day of sport climbing at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

The Polish athlete broke her own world record – twice – and by default her Olympic Record, securing a time of 6.21 in her first timed run, then 6.06 in her second, to better the mark set before Paris of 6.24 in the former, and 6.84 in the latter.

The two-time world champion from 2018 and 2019 then progressed through the following knockout round, against Aniya Holder of South Africa.

So, after the first round, Olympics brings you a preview of the next stage, the full schedule, and how to watch live.

Paris 2024 sport climbing women's speed preview after qualification rounds

The top eight women's speed climbers progressed from the preliminary stages to the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals, all taking place on Wednesday 7 August.

Their route took the form of the first timing stage in which all 14 athletes scrambled up the 15m-high wall as fast as their legs and arms would take them up the 20 handholds and 20 footholds.

Those results then decided the head-to-head match-ups in the next stage, the jeopardous elimination round, in which the winner would progress to the final in two days' time.

Miroslaw, as we've seen, is on sparkling form, as is her Poland team-mate, Aleksandra Kalucka. The 22-year-old, who beat her twin sister and 2021 world champion Natalia Kalucka to the final spot on the Poland team for Paris, also makes it through.

Indonesia are renowned for their prowess in speed climbing and the pair of reigning world champion Desak Made Made Rita Kusuma Dewi and Rajiah Sallsabillah prove that once again by advancing from the heats, although the latter needed the fastest loser spot to do so.

Team USA's Emma Hunt, the runner-up at the 2023 World Championships, also moved on to Wednesday's competition.
