Singapore's Loh Kean Yew got his Olympic Games Paris 2024 campaign of the men's singles badminton tournament off to a promising start winning his opening group stage match against Jan Louda on 28 July.

The 10th-seeded shuttler played with intent as he looked to put the disappointment of his early Tokyo 2020 exit behind him

The 2021 world champion made short shrift of his Czech opponent with a dominant 21-13, 21-10 win in his Group M match.

Loh was relatively slow out of the blocks trailing his opponent 11-9 at the mid-game break in the opener before he found his rhythm. He went on a rampage after the short break scoring 11 points on the trot to secure the first game.

A victory in his next match against El Salvador's Uriel Canjura on Wednesday (31 July) would see him through to the Round of 16 stage. Loh was eliminated from the first round three years ago where he bowed the knee to Indonesian ace Jonatan Christie in the deciding match.

Loh will be looking to convert his success on the BWF World Tour - which included a title victory at the 2024 Spanish Masters - into Olympic glory for Singapore.
